Most years when I’m in New Zealand I present workshops and do some coaching and consulting on behalf of an entrepreneurial accountant (sorry, business builder) in Masterton, John Sexton, with his clients.
John, like me, is a devotee of Winston Marsh and his Business Marketing monthly CD. Last year a client of John’s tried out one of Winston’s ideas that John suggested to him to WOW his internal customers, in other words his staff. It’s one that you could use to surprise and delight your team this Christmas.
Here’s how it worked.
Brian Eccles runs a successful company with specialised software to help farmers manage, monitor and analyse their business, (if that interests you check out www.computerconcepts.co.nz ). One Thursday last year, Brian told his staff that they would be knocking off at 3.00pm and that he had a surprise for them and they wouldn’t be getting home till 6.00pm. At 3.00pm over a cuppa he gave each of them a crisp $100 note, with instructions that they had until 5.00pm to spend it on themselves – not their families – and that he would require back any unspent $$$s. Their offices are in central Masterton, so off they went and returned at 5.00pm for a few drinks and a show and tell of what each of them had bought.
Was it fun? Did it create interest and excitement? Did it make people feel special? You bet.
Go on, you’ve still got time before Christmas. Surprise your team. They will feel good and so will you.
